Have you ever wondered what makes a yarn irresistible?
In our experience, our customers choose a yarn on the one hand because they are particularly drawn to a particular colour. On the other hand, because of how it feels to the touch. And of course, where and how the yarn is produced also plays an increasingly important role.
As always, we have gone through great lengths to meet these three criteria. Read on to learn about Tibetan`s development and our attention to the details that make it wonderful.
Tibetan - A Yarn that Meets the Highest Demands
Perhaps you already know Tibetan - the yarn has been in our range since 2017. Tibetan is a blend of 70% organic merino ultrafine and 30% yak wool. Because the fibre fineness of the Merino wool used is 17.5 microns, it falls into the “ultra-fine” category.
The yak wool which has a fineness of 16 microns comes from Mongolia. The result of this fibre blend is a particularly soft yarn that is incredibly light, very breathable and comfortable on the skin.
Volume and Yardage - the Properties of Tibetan
The fibres for Tibetan are not only particularly light by nature, they are also spun together very loosely. The resulting yarn appears particularly voluminous and therefore warms exceptionally well. With a length of 127 yds (125m) / 50 g, Tibetan can go a long way: You only need about 8 balls (400 g) for a cardigan. You can even get by with less than 100 g for a double-stranded, warm winter hat.

Tibetan: Now with a Brand New Colour Palette
Up until recently, we offered Tibetan in five pastel colours. However, because this worsted yarn has been so popular, we decided to add new colours to it.
Choosing the new colours was a lot of fun and we went through great lengths to put together a colour palette that would include a wonderful range of colours to mix and match. We think the result is convincing: The 38 ingeniously coordinated colours in the Tibetan palette can be combined with one another without limits - be it colourfully mixed or finely coordinated within one colour tone. With just about every shade under the rainbow, the possibilities are endless and the creativity is all yours!
Tibetan is no longer available as a 100 g hank, but is rather wound in 50 g balls of 127 yds (125m). The advantages of this are many. Unlike with a hank of yarn that you have to first wind, with a ball of yarn you can start knitting immediately. Also, the yarn will not be overly pulled, keeping it at its original consistency. Finally, the yarn will easily fit anywhere without tangling, so you can knit on the go!
Tibetan is suitable for all kinds of knitting and crochet projects: from accessories such as soft hats, warm gloves and colourful scarves to fashionable items of clothing such as ponchos, cardigans or pullovers. Let your creativity run free - with Tibetan the possibilities are countless!

What We Pay Attention to - Our Standards
Our merino wool is of course mulesing-free. It comes from Argentina (Patagonia) and is GOTS-certified. This means that the animals are kept according to ecological standards and no toxic bleaches, dyes or other chemicals are used in the manufacturing of the yarn. The fibres are processed into the yarn for us in Italy by a renowned spinning mill with which we have been working for many years.
In the production of our natural yarns, we pay special attention to a sustainable supply chain that meets its social, ethical and ecological responsibility. From the farm to the finished yarn, we stand for high standards in terms of environmental protection, animal welfare and working conditions.

Care
We recommend washing your knitwear made with Tibetan (yak wool, merino) by hand in lukewarm water with a mild wool detergent, such as our Organic Wool & Cashmere Wool Detergent. Dry flat, preferably on a terry towel, to keep its shape.
