Re-Jeans
We recycle. We care.
Not Just Another Cotton Yarn!
As its name suggests, Re-Jeans comes from the recycled denim cotton from the manufacture of jeans. It is recycled cotton made of post-industrial denim waste rather than post-consumer. We take the fabric residues and gradually dissolve and wash them down, step by step, to the individual fibres which are then mixed again and spun into a yarn.
Sustainable & Eco-Friendly
Cotton production requires a lot of water, energy, and labour. Recycled cotton, on the other hand, is an eco-friendly alternative to regular cotton because it demands fewer resources to manufacture. According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), about 20,000 litres of water are needed to produce one kilogram of cotton, the equivalent of one T-shirt and one pair of jeans. By recycling cotton, we reduce the environmental impact of textile waste ending up in landfills, save energy, and save water.
The Perfect Vegan Alternative to Wool!
The recycling process gives Re-Jeans its characteristic, beautiful rustic appealing structure. Re-Jeans is a comfortable yarn to knit with because the yarn does not split, as is often the case with “simple” cotton yarns. As with other cotton, Re-Jeans can also be worn directly on the skin, making it ideal for people with sensitive skin for whom wool is too prickly.

Caring for Your Re-Jeans Knitwear
We always recommend hand-washing knitwear, but if you need to, you can put Re-Jeans in the washing machine: Turn your garment inside out and put it in a mesh. Use and eco-friendly detergent like our Wool & Cashmere Detergent and put it in the washing machine using the woollen cycle.
Most Re-Jeans garments will shrink slightly after the first wash. Always wash your Re-Jeans garments on the coldest setting, and then air-dry them rather than placing them in a dryer. Some of the colours of Re-Jeans might bleed a little during the first wash.
After washing, you can bring your garment easily into its original shape: To ensure that it will, first take some basic measurements, such as the length of each sleeve and the length of the hem, before washing by hand or machine. After the garment has been washed, to effectively air-dry it lay it flat on top of a towel, in such a way that it matches the measurements you had taken previously. It may take up to 24 hours for it to fully dry. When it is fry, the fabric will appear a bit firm, but it quickly becomes soft again when worn.
The dimensions given in all our patterns designed with Re-Jeans take into account that the fabric will shrink and refer to the dimensions obtained once the item has been washed.
You should fold rather than hang your Re-Jeans pullovers or cardigans. Over an extended period of time, if placed on a hanger, the shoulders will stretch out from the hanger and eventually lose some of the original shape.
Your Re-Jeans knitwear can be ironed, but you don't want to iron it in the same manner you would a cotton shirt or a pair of cotton pants. The danger is that the heat applied by an iron may cause the cotton knit to appear "shiny". To avoid this outcome, place a damp towel over the cotton item. Simply iron over the towel using it as a protective barrier between iron and garment.
