Product information

As its name suggests our Mais yarn is made from the fibres of the maize plant. The process is comparable to that of viscose production. Maize is a fast growing and easily degradable plant fibres. The maize fibres for our yarn come from China. They are spun and dyed for us in Portugal.

Maize fibre has many special properties. It is very fine and soft, gentle on the skin and particularly suitable for children's clothing because it is easy to wash (machine washable at 86 ° F). The yarn is breathable and feels extremely pleasant on the skin - almost like a fine wool.

The very high elasticity of the fibre guarantees longevity and conformability. This vegan yarn has a very good heat storage capacity and the ability to wick moisture away from the body. Because it is a wonderful year-round yarn, our colour palette accordingly has been designed accordingly.

Mais is suitable for tops as well as accessories such as scarves or shawls. It is pleasantly soft and can also be worn directly on the skin.  It is perfect for baby and children's clothing.

Tip: It is advisable to always order enough yarn for your desired model to ensure you knit your entire project with yarn of the same dye batch. In case of doubt, please make a gauge sample immediately after receiving the yarn. In this way, you can estimate whether you have ordered sufficient quantity and, if necessary, reorder directly.
