Product Information
The Long Island shawl is the first of the "cocktail" shawl series. The shawl is knitted like an asymmetrical triangle shawl. When the appropriate width has been reached, it is knitted straight on like a scarf. Towards the end, decreases are worked in and it becomes asymmetrical again.
The wide part in the middle is knitted in stripes and in garter stitch. It can be worked fast because you don‘t have to concentrate on a pattern and you don‘t have to count. But don´t lose sight of how much yarn you are consuming.
For the lace pattern, where there are increases and decreases, you do need to concentrate. Since it is repetitive, pretty soon it will become almost automatic and you won't have to refer to the written pattern as often.
Because the lace pattern looks like small islands and due to its elongated shape, the shawl is called "Long Island".
For this model we used our yarn Pascuali Bayak. Bayak consists of 75% yak wool and 25% viscose made of cotton cellulose. It comes hans of 176 yds per 50 g.
The shawl is 47" long and 16" wide.
You need two skeins of each colour. You also need a circular needle 4 mm/US 6.
