Exclusive, Finest, Baby Camel Yarn
Inspired by the colours and textures of the endless waves of sand dunes broken only by the occasional rocky slope found in the deserts of Central Asia, we bring you an extraordinarily soft, luxurious and quite unique yarn: Pascuali Camel DK.
Pascuali Camel wool is derived from the undercoat of the iconic two-humped Bactrian camels found across the Alashan region of Inner Mongolia. Called the ships of the desert for their endurance and ability to cope with the heat and lack of water, Bactrian camels are known for their long, lustrous hair. They have two layers of hair: guard hair, the outer one which is coarse and straight; and the undercoat, which is soft and fine. Bactrian camels face freezing winters and scorching summers, but their undercoat offers exceptional insulation, keeping them warm during the cold months and cool during the war season. It is precisely this layer of hair (also called baby Camel hair) that we have used for our yarn.
Pascuali Camel DK– Hand in Hand with Our High Sustainability Standards
In the production of our natural yarns, we pay special attention to a sustainable supply chain that meets its social, ethical, and ecological responsibility. From the farm to the finished yarn, we stand for high standards in terms of environmental protection, animal welfare and working conditions.
Most of Inner Mongolia's camel wool is produced by breeders who have been caring for Bactrian camels for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. They harvest camel wool using the same methods that have been passed down from one generation to the next.
Harvesting this type of fibre is quite a sustainable and cruelty-free enterprise. Every year, the Bactrian camel starts to grow a thick coat of hair towards the end of the summer. By midwinter, this coat reaches its full thickness and is quite robust. In the spring, the Bactrian camel sheds its coat. Once all the hair has fallen off, it is collected and cleaned to remove any impurities. Instead of the typical single or plied yarn, is a chained yarn.
Camel DK– 100% Out of the Ordinary!
Attention to texture, colour and the natural world make this sand dune-inspired yarn truly unique:
- Super soft
- Not Itchy
Because this i- cord is really just a hollow tube, Pascuali Camel DK is extraordinarily lightweight and stretchy. Garments knit with it allow free body movement yet return to their original shape making them resistant to wrinkling and sagging. And because of the chains and how they’re locked in, it hardly pills. It is nearly as soft as cashmere with very high thermoregulating properties keeping you warm in winter and nice and cool in the summer. What´s more: Camel wool is an entirely biodegradable fibre, which means that it does not contribute to pollution when it is discarded.
Beautiful, Breathtaking Colours
This plush yarn can be knitted or crocheted into the most special, luxurious garments you can ever dream of. It comes in eleven rich, natural, warm colours carefully designed to captivate the varied shades and textures of those absolutely, breathtakingly sensuous dune lines of the desert landscape.
