Alpaca fibre is a very precious fibre. In fact, there are no negative characteristics with an alpaca fleece. Mother Nature has developed an ideal fibre and given it to the gentle alpaca. A Spaniard Bernabe Cobo wrote about alpaca fibre in his book “History of the New World (1653)”: „Alpaca,un càlido don de Dios a los Hombres“ (Alpaca is a warm gift from God to mankind).
Baby Alpaca is softer and gentler than Alpaca and it feels very comfortable on the skin. It is an ideal yarn for very sensitive skins! No itching! The softness of Baby Alpaca results from the shearing of the alpaca young rather than adult animals.
This yarn is perfectly suited for knitting clothes such as pullovers, cardigans, and tanktops and also, because of its gentle wearing properties, you can wear clothes with high skin contact such as knitted scarves and caps.
Our Baby Alpaca wool is a voluminous, fluffy yarn, which is knits evenly and seldom breaks. The knitted article holds its form and seldom pills. Alpaca wool becomes softer and fluffier after washing and the knitting design becomes even more noticeable.
It is preferable to use wooden or bamboo needles for knitting or crocheting with our Baby Alpaca Los Andes (you can find wooden needles under the category Handwork and Accessories).
The yarn is produced in Peru.
Wash your knitted article preferably by hand, in lukewarm water, not in the washing machine. If you have a modern eco washing machine with a wool cycle function, please wash at a temperature of no more than 30°. Please use a special wool detergent and dry the article flat to maintain its shape. You can also dry it on foam plastic hangers but away from any heat source!
Before you put on your knitted garment for the first time wash it lightly, rinsing in lukewarm water. This flattens the loose fibres and significantly reduces pilling.
Please remember that every colour chart may vary slightly from the actual colours of the product.
It is important that you have enough of the knitting yarn for the desired garment. It is best to begin knitting as soon as you receive the yarn, so you can estimate if you have ordered enough of the yarn and can then immediately reorder. You can also check if there are sufficient quantities of the yarn of the same batch in stock. Please note that despite similar colours there can be differences in the colours of the yarn from the different batches.
